Since 2002, James June Schneider aka Ex Lamp has been “vampling”, performing video, either solo, or within various group projects, including Video Love and AE (with A. Sharpley of plunderphonic pioneers Stock, Hausen and Walkman). Ex Lamp originally performed under the name Matterlink (until a company literally threw shade on the name). The events consist of real-time video sampling and layering of video material.
Differing from “VJ”ing, with vampling, the solo performances are performed cinema, each shot triggered on command and/or resampled. In Ex Lamp sets, the original sound (from the footage) is mixed alongside the image simultaneously.
