Vampllng performances of Matterlink lie somewhere between the movie and concert experience. Working both solo or teaming up with various musicians, he samples from thousands of digitized film/video fragments both shot and found, playing the space/time pockets from a midi-keyboard. These raw elements are then reworked, looped, altered forming sound and image-scapes punctuated by spoken and sung words. Solo, he most often plays one long developing piece.

Prior to working mostly solo as Matterlink, Schneider vampled several years (2001-2004) in the electronica group formerly known as æ (on Sonig) with Emiko Ota, Andrew Sharpley, and Thierry Negro. A frivolous lawsuit from Autechre forced them to change their name to Accident and Emergency.
